(Anbaï)
塩梅 (anbaï) — a Japanese word with no direct translation.
The art of finding just the right balance. Not too much, not too little. Just right.
Once I decide something is right, I go all in.
With food, I eat until I genuinely can’t anymore.
Recently, I had corn — the taste of summer — and it was so good I ate five ears in one sitting.
Completely satisfied. After that, I didn’t want to look at corn again.
My thinking works the same way.
I go deep into one thing.
Sometimes that’s a strength.
But sometimes it blinds me to everything else.
That’s where 塩梅 (anbaï) comes in.
I think the key to finding that right balance is a single breath — a small pause.
When my focus narrows to one point,
I take a breath.
I create a little space.
And from there, I find my anbaï.
That might be one way to ease the tension in my shoulders.
Thank you for reading.
