Why I Can’t Stop Watching Shorts
I wasn’t watching short videos.
I was out collecting materials.
Though sometimes… I don’t come back.
I want to add some context to something I posted on X.
I like short videos.
Sometimes I fall into the scroll.
Sometimes the algorithm fully takes over.
I’ll admit that.
But I never come back empty-handed.
I recently posted a solo Fu short video.
The idea behind it:
“Short videos can be a time-stealing swamp — but they’re also a place where unexpected seeds show up.”
Before I could put my reasons into words, ChatGPT summarized what I’d gathered during one particular deep-scroll session:
- Discovered an NSYNC song I’d never heard before
- Observed how choreography changes the way expression lands
- Learned that one viral moment doesn’t change anything
- Noticed that the algorithm routes differently by country and language
- Got the idea for a Fu video
- Figured out how to add subtle movement using Canva AI
🤣With a haul like that, “shorts are a waste of time, I should quit” just doesn’t hold up.
That said — when the algorithm starts cycling through completely different genres, I’ve clearly been in there a while.
Whether this is a good way to collect — I’ll leave that aside.
I’ll probably go back out collecting again soon.

ショートをやめられない理由

I was out collecting materials.
Though sometimes… I don’t come back.
ショート動画を見ていたのではない。
資料採集に出かけていたのだ。
ただし、ときどき帰ってこない。
Xで投稿した内容の補足をしようと思う。
私はショート動画を見るのが好き。
たまに沼る。
完全にアルゴリズムにやられてる時もある。
それは認める。
それでも、ただでは戻ってこない。
久しぶりにあげた単独ふうショート動画。
これは
「ショートは時間を奪う沼でもあるけど、思いがけない種を拾える場所でもある。」
ということでもある。
私が理由をまとめる前にChatGPTが、ある日の私のショートに沼った日の採取についてまとめてくれた。
- 知らなかったNSYNCの曲に出会う
- 振付によって表現が変わることを観察する
- バズ一回では何も変わらないと知る
- 国や言語ごとに回る場所が違うと気づく
- ふうの動画が一本できる
- Canva AIで少し動かす方法を覚える
🤣これだけ持ち帰ったら、そりゃ「ショートは無駄だからやめよう」とはならん。
でも、アルゴリズムがジャンルを変えてショートを回してくるくらい、時間をかけている。この採取方法がいいのかどうかは置いといて。
わたしはまた資料採集に行くだろう。
